About
Hi there! I’m Waverly— the face, hands, and heart behind the pottery you’ll find here. For as long as I can remember, I’ve felt a deep pull to create. The conventional classroom never felt like home, so after dropping out of every school I attended, I took a different route. It wasn’t until I spent a few months exploring ceramics at a small community college that I felt a pull strong enough to propel me forward. After that, I bought an old kiln and a throwing wheel, and that’s when my journey truly began.
In 2019, I was fortunate to work with my dear friend, Talia Olmstead, of White Hearth Pottery. That experience shaped my work and inspired me to officially launch Waverly Long Studios in 2020. My first sales were made at the Clarke County Farmers Market in Berryville, Virginia, with pots I crafted in the corner of my living room.
From there, I moved into a larger studio in Virginia, where I worked for two years, refining my craft. In 2023 I made the decision to find home and inspiration in Asheville, North Carolina. The area is bursting with creative energy, and is tucked away in the ever-sprawling mountains of western North Carolina.
Ceramics is a deeply meditative and often solitary practice. It takes digging deeply, pushing past the discomfort of long hours spent sitting in the studio, focusing on the repetitive, usually tedious tasks of shaping clay. It’s in these moments of stillness and persistence that I feel make each piece truly special.
It means the world to me that my work has found its way into your lives. I hope the pieces created here are a source of joy and beauty in your corner of the world.
Much love,
Waverly
