Helene Mug #2

Before Hurricane Helene hit Asheville, I had thrown and trimmed a batch of mugs. By the time the studio reopened, they were too dry to attach handles. I was about to crush them into the clay reclaim bucket when my friend Chuck said, “Fire them.”

So I did. When they came out of the kiln, they looked different—handle-less and unfinished, missing what was expected. In their simple, unadorned form, they had a quiet strength. Like the town, they’d been through a storm and emerged changed. They remind me that disruption doesn’t necessarily mean broken. Sometimes, it makes us more resilient.

 20% of sales from these mugs will go to the RAD hurricane relief fund.

3.75” tall, 3” wide. Holds 12.5 oz. (Although there is slight variation from mug to mug!)

Microwave safe.

Hand washing recommended.
